centered around the iconic architecture of Phoenix Island.

Phoenix

May 3rd, 2025 ~ ㅣ 1F, Glass House Annex

Phoenix Island is home to architectural landmarks such as the Glass House and the museum, both designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando(1941, Japan), and the Agora, designed by Mario Botta(1943, Switzerland).
These works capture the light and natural beauty of Jeju, offering a distinctive and immersive artistic experience.

The 30-year journey of Phoenix has been a time of reflection, shaped alongside these architectural masterpieces that embrace light and nature.

This special exhibition explores the artistic depth of Phoenix’s architecture through over 20 photographs, each capturing the essence of space.
The black-and-white photos, harmonized with the Jeju landscape, invite viewers to see the structural beauty of the buildings through a refined lens.

We hope this exhibition offers a new perspective on Jeju’s natural environment and the architecture within it.
We also invite you to discover more artistic inspiration at the Yumin Art Nouveau Museum.

Gate of Stone

In 2008, Tadao Ando (b. 1941) designed a series of geometrically structured buildings in response to the topography and views of eastern Jeju Island. Located at the boundary where the sea meets the land, the Glass House stands in a site defined by strong opposing winds. Ando named this building Gate of Wind to reflect its environmental character. Nearby, the Yumin Art Nouveau Museum was built on a basalt stone islet and was named Gate of Stone. Facing one another, the two buildings were conceived as a single architectural series, embodying the contrasting yet complementary concepts of yang and yin.

This special exhibition highlights the valuable process through which Tadao Ando has pursued harmony between architecture, art, and nature, presenting archival materials and architectural photographs accumulated during the design process in 2008.

※ The exhibition end date may be subject to change depending on internal circumstances.
